Journal Writing T3 W3 : Effects Of Preventive Measures on Pupils

On the first day of school, we were not supposed to go to the hall for assembly. The reason is that H1N1 has arrived in Singapore. Many Singaporeans got it, some of them probably didn't know that they have the H1N1 virus in their body, so they visited relatives , friends and going to malls and anywhere in Singapore. Despite the fact of Singapore being a very strong country, it also has the virus. People are coming to Singapore and leaving Singapore to other countries, when they come back to Singapore they bring some of the virus from other speding countries such as the United States. When they board the plane to Singapore, the plane will eventually fill with the flu virus. Other people in the plane breathe the unhealthy air from the plane that they are taking. I think wearing a mask is not that effective anymore.

SA1 Results

It was the end of all the exams. Iam relieved, I actually wanted a short break. Just the next day, I saw Mr. Ong carrying a tile of papers. I saw Mr.Ong look on his face and noticed that he was probably quite disappointed with the class results. I was afraid to ask him if i did well and hit my SA1 targets. When we reached class, I waited anxiously for Mr.Ong to give out the papers, but unexpected he said that he wanted to give out after recess. I think his objective is to let us eat our breakfast before seeing the results.

I counted down to 11.00pm. Soon my good friends and i walk briskly to the classroom. Mr.Ong told us that: "Don't cry over a spilled mik" we then know what he he trying to say.The whole class become very quiet while Mr.Ong asked the group leaders to give out the papers, i crossed my fingers and prayed hard for good results. Unfortunately,I am just unluckly in a way the i scored 'badly' ....

Fortunately, Singapore was then lucky enough to flight against the swine flu. Despite the fact that Singapore is a globalizing little red dot, it is powerful. Many people say that Singapore will eventually get it as Malaysia has two confirmed cases about the flu.In the Japan side, the news announced that they have 20 more cases bringing the total number of cases to 32 amid fears the virus has a foothold in the west of the country. The latest group of flu sufferers included 18 high school students in Osaka prefecture and the city of Kobe in neighbouring Hyogo prefecture, where eight students were already ill from the virus, a health ministry official told AFP.There are out there way too many countrys and cases to type. As what my form teacher, Mr. Ong, said" anything that come will past ." We, Singaporeans must help ourselves to prevent this harmful virus from spreading to the country!!! Jiayou Singaporeans!!!

Places Of Interest In Singapore

SENTOSA

Sentosa is a area selected for the construction of Fort Siloso was at the western point of Blakang Mati. Lt. H.E. McCallum, Royal Engineers and a workforce comprising of local people began preparing the site for Fort Siloso in 1874. British, in the days of Queen Victoria, came to Singapore to take advantage of its strategic location to enhance their trade with China. This location would give the new fort a commanding position at the western entrance to Keppel Harbour. The western approach to the harbour is said to had been 'discovered' in 1848 by Admiral Sir Henry Keppel sailing in HMS Meander. There is, however, extremely good evidence that this entrance was known of by the seamen of the east for a significant period of time before Admiral Keppel came on the scene

Total Defence

Each year a Total Defence is launched to promote public awareness of Total Defence. It is something that you must protect of i will protect my friends and also the national anthem. In 1984, the concept of Total Defence was adapted from the experiences of countries like Switzerland and Sweden. As a young nation with a small population and a conscript armed forces, we needed to draw on the different strengths and abilities of our community to augment our defence capability. Conflicts between countries are no longer just military in nature. Potential aggressors and threats can appear in less obvious and non-conventional ways. Total Defence provides the framework for a comprehensive and integrated response to deal with all kinds of threats and challenges. Whether it is a security threat such as global terrorism, or a national crisis like SARS, Total Defence brings together all relevant government agencies, private sector organisations and all Singaporeans in a coordinated effort to deal effectively with these threats and challenges. When Singaporeans take personal responsibility for and get involved in the defence of Singapore, they are playing their part to help keep Singapore safe and secure.

T1W4 Journal Writing : Festivals

I celebrate CNY and christmas, because i am Chinese.I like chinese new year the most as i like to receive hongbaos containing money.I will greet my parents and wish them goods things, then i will go to my grandparents house to visit them.I also will give them oranges.

Total Defence

Total Defence is a concept introduced by the government of Singapore in 1984 to improve readiness in matters related to the defence and national security of Singapore, and is partly based on similar concepts in Switzerland, Denmark, Estonia and Sweden. In fact, the concept has very close similarities (including the “five aspects of Total Defence”, discussed below) to the 1972 adopted Total Defence concept in Austria. This concept rests on the notion that the defence of the country cannot rely only on the regular armed forces. Thus the concept declares that government agencies, private sector organisations and all Singaporeans are to be involved in an effort to deal with security threats facing Singapore. It can be compared to the concept of total war.

Toothfairy

In early Europe, there was a tradition to bury baby teeth that fell out. Some believe that the Tooth Fairy evolved from the tooth mouse depicted in an 18th century French language fairy tale. In "La Bonne Petite Souris," a mouse changes into a fairy to help a good queen defeat an evil king by hiding under his pillow to torture him and knocking out all his teeth.

This combination of ancient international traditions has evolved into one that is distinct Anglo-Saxon and Latin American cultures among others.

Tooth tradition is present in several western cultures under different names. For example in Spanish-speaking countries, this character is called Ratoncito Perez, a little mouse with a common surname, or just "raton de los dientes" (Tooth Mouse). The "Ratoncito Perez" character was created around 1894 by the priest Luis Coloma (1851–1915), a member of the Real Academia Espanola since 1908. The Crown asked Coloma to write a tale for the eight-year old Alfonso XIII, as one of his teeth had fallen out. A Ratón Pérez appeared in the tale of the Vain Little Mouse. The Ratoncito Pérez was used by Colgate marketing in Venezuela and Spaincitation needed.

In Italy also the Tooth Fairy (Fatina) is often substituted by a small mouse (topino). In France, this character is called La Petite Souris (« The Little Mouse »). From parts of Lowland Scotland, comes a tradition similar to the fairy mouse: a white fairy rat which purchases the teeth with coins.

In some Asian countries, such as India, Korea and Vietnam, when a child loses a tooth the usual custom is that he or she should throw it onto the roof if it came from the lower jaw, or into the space beneath the floor if it came from the upper jaw. While doing this, the child shouts a request for the tooth to be replaced with the tooth of a mouse. This tradition is based on the fact that the teeth of mice go on growing for their whole life, a characteristic of all rodents.
